Lincoln Looses to Dillard

What looked to be a defensive battle between Lincoln and Dillard, turned into a one-sided swing of momentum for Dillard at Cox Stadium.

Lincoln led 10-7 midway through the third quarter. Running back Demetric Stephens scored the team’s lone touchdown on 10-yard touchdown after a strip-sack by linebacker James Gavin (recovered by Ladarian Dudley).

But the Trojans answered with 28 unanswered points.

The points score were simply off of blown plays by Lincoln as it gave up two 80-yard rushing touchdown and two 60-yard passes that went all the way.

“I don’t think they had a drive where they went down the field on us,” Lincoln head coach Jimmie Tyson said. “We just gave up some big plays. We fought with them for a half and went blow to blow with them, but our youth showed in the second half.”

Lincoln’s defense was stellar up to this point, allowing only 12 points in the team’s first eight games.

Friday was the most points the Trojans allowed this season (previous was 30 against Colquitt).

“(Dillard) is an explosive team with some D1 guys,” Tyson said. “We knew they were going to make some plays and they got loose on us on a couple plays.”

Lincoln has had an unsteady season, surpassing their loss total from a season ago when the team reached the 6A Regional semifinals.

All of the team’s losses this season have come by a double-digit tally.

But now, the Trojans must shift their focus to postseason hopes. It may have to come through an at-large bid.

In their way is the unbeaten Florida High Seminoles (9-0), who defeated Marianna, 34-7 on Friday.

“(FSUS) is another tough team that’s undefeated,” Tyson said. “It’s going to be a fight and we’re learning the hard way by fighting good teams.1
